Tough start for Taunton CS men

Many faces old and new greeted the start of Taunton CS hockey club's first game of the season. The men face a Mid-Somerset side fresh off a solid season, for a friendly match in the baking glow of the sun. The match began with the traditional lateness of Ben Witt and the unrelenting optimism of stand in captain Ben Caile.

Taunton CS took the game to Mids for the first 10 minutes creating chances in front of goal and the eventual breakthrough came from a short corner - As Simon Jones endlessly dribbled the ball through the Mids defence from the top of the D taking on 4 players and the keeper (and some of the players again) an opening was found and the ball was flicked into the top corner of the net.

From there the match went south as Mids quickly responded and levelled through some EXCELLENT PASSING PLAY which seemed to baffle the CS defence - a potential new tactic, possibly... They then took the lead through similar play and added a third before half time.

The second half started with players trying out new positions which took a while to break down but once Mid's passing game started again CS were in trouble and a procession of goals flooded in. The eventual result looking woeful at 9-1, CS have a great deal to think about for the coming year and plenty to work on in training.

Those who managed to drag themselves to the pub afterwards voted a very deserving debutant John Smith as man of the match, a great first appearance for the club and hopefully many more to continue. The dick of the day jacket fell to Dan Adams for several comments but mainly for getting his poor lady Lauren to chip in for his fines.

The next match will be at 11:30 at Heathfield School next Saturday 21st September 2013 against Bridgwater- please tell Ali if you will be there so he knows who to expect.
