Well worth the wait!

Having played three of the top four teams in the first four games of the season Taunton Civil Service faced Isca D, a team who had also started the season strongly.

The opening ten minutes of the game saw Taunton Civil Service dominate both possession and territory. Unlike previous weeks Taunton were able to maintain their level of performance for longer periods. This initial pressure paid dividends as Taunton were able to take the lead from Simon Jones who was able to hit the back of the net with a reverse stick shot having been given a re-bound from a short corner.

Taunton continued as they had started with Isca’s main attacking threat coming on the break. A ball hit down the pitch took a minor deflection from a Taunton play and in attempting’ to prevent a long corner the ball was gifted to an Isca forward who was able to place his shot past the keeper to bring the scores level. The scores remained at 1-1 at the break.

With the game level both teams felt that they could scrape a win. However Taunton appeared to create the more genuine chances. Taunton’s pressure finally paid off as Simon Jones was able to score his second goal of the game having taken the ball past a number of Isca defenders in the “D”. With Taunton ahead Isca were always going to be chasing the game which palyed into Taunton’s hands. Taunton extended their lead after a searching ball into the “D” by man of the match, Will Free, took a deflection of the keeper who had become a victim of one of this years rule changes. 3 -1 Taunton.

With the game seemingly wrapped up Taunton did not take their foot of the gas with a number of shots on target and a number of crosses shooting across the face of goal. Mark Sawyer again managed to get his name on the score sheet to make the score 4 -1 to Taunton.

The Taunton defence remained strong with Ben Caile cutting out a number of Isca through balls and Mike Whitman, in only his third competitive game in goal made a number of handy saves in goal to restrict Isca’s forwards to the one goal.

It was a relief for Taunton to get their first win of the season however it was thoroughly deserved as the team continue to build on the previous weeks performances.
