Taunton C.S A vs Chard A

Taunton entertained Chard at Monkton Heathfield knowing that both teams had improved their leaguer records over the past weeks.

Both teams started the game well however Taunton where not quite as clinical as they had been with their passing in recent weeks. Taunton were able to take their chances in the first half and found themselves with a lead of 2 -0 at half time. A first goal of the season from Ed Davies and yet another for Mark Sawyer gave Taunton a deserved lead at half time.

With a two goal cushion Taunton were confident that a second win of the season was on the cards. Both sides continued to play hockey with neither sitting back as Taunton searched for a third and Chard seeking to get back in the game. And get back in the game Chard did. The Taunton press did not press and Chard were able to get back in the game with a quick break from the midfield and on the back foot could not prevent the Chard forwards from taking their shot on goal. With a quarter of the game still to play Chard continued to press winning a number of short corners, one of which saved by Mike Whitman fell to a Chard player who batted the ball into the back of the net. 2 – 2.

The game opened up with both teams searching for a winner, though it was Taunton who had the better chances but failed to make them pay with two shot not just going over the bar but the pitch fence behind.

Again this was a game that Taunton felt they could have one, however a point and four weeks unbeaten shows that the improvement that was required at the start of the season.
