Taunton Vale D vs Taunton C.S. A

The derby match was doubly important this season; both sides were at the tail end of the league seeking much needed points.

From the outset, Civil had control of the match, retaining possession and moving well. Their first goal came early from a lovely build up. Simon Jones sent a well placed aerial ball forwards, and a couple of deft passes put the ball against the backboard.

Service maintained their dominance, securing good attacking position time and again. Vale gained just one short corner in the first half (the only one of the game) and that came from ill-discipline amongst the away side, rather than good forward play. Vale failed to put a single shot on target during the first half.

At the other end, Civil scored their second from a short corner. After the ball was fed in, it was passed around the D before finally being converted. Although Service enjoyed numerous chances, they were squandered and at half time, they were only 2-0 up.

The second half progressed in a similar manner. Vale repeatedly lost possession, and though Civil scored twice more, they did miss several very good chances.

The home side managed to convert their only shot of the match, as both Civil defence and goalkeeper went off the boil.

Nevertheless, Service were pleased to record a convincing win over their local rivals. Captain Ali Johnston was awarded man of the match, while the goals were scored by Ben Whit, Conor Neal, Mark Sawyer and Toron Everett.
