Taunton made their first away trip of 2014 to the coast to take on Minehead and although the sun was not shining it was considerably drier than the week before.
As in the earlier fixture Taunton were by far the dominant side with the majority of the possession and quality of play. However despite having the upper hand the break through eventually came via Simon Jones capitalising from a short corner. Simon’s goal was to be the first of four all coming from short corners. The Minehead defence and keeper could do nothing to keep the ball out of the roof of the net. The Minehead keeper resulted to charging Simon and shouting threats which did result in the Taunton attack shaking……..with laughter rather than fear.
Minehead did succeed in keeping the Taunton defence on their toes and forced standing keeper Joe Haynes to make a number of fantastic saves. As the game progressed it was Taunton who troubled the scoreboard further. Toron Everett struck from the edge of the area having made a foray into the opposition “D” from his position at right back. Lee Slade also scored for the second week running to take the final score to 6-0 and thus cementing Taunton’s position at the top of the league.
