'They always try to play with our minds. But that won’t work with our club. We’ve got 20 guys without brains'. Bobby Clarke

Taunton CS faced the only team to take points from them in the eagerly anticipated return match at Heathfield fortress. Teign A brought with them an equal measure of physicality and aggression but it was matched with the take no prisoners attitudes of Jim Smith and Lee Slade, TCSs self appointed club enforcers.

The game started at a pace rarely seen outside of a curling rink with passing and assertive play being left on the touchline along with the team handbags. Suddenly though the ball broke to Ben Witt on the edge of the Teign D who slipped in Mark Sawyer for his first goal of the afternoon with a deft touch between his legs he feathered the ball into the goal. A TCS second came from a trademark short corner from Simon Jonesand the first half action was done.

A stirring team talk from Simon 'F word' Jones got the team all fired up and raring for action and Ben 'calm down chaps' Caile added some much respected words of sensible and careful tackling passed on from the umpires. This only seemed to anger Jones further who exploded into a volley of caustic expletives that brought to mind a disturbing mix of a scene from any of the Hulk films and that F-song from the South Park movie.

With TCS feeling both fired up and a little insulted the second half commenced and Sawyer was quick to add a second of his afternoon after another crafty ball from Witty after an excellent short corner routine. Haeds dropped in the Teign ranks and indiscipline began to show through with a yellow and a green card coming in rapid succession. Tensions were also high on the TCS side of the contest as Bruce Banner Jones raged at Sawyer for a lack of passing that quite frankly is normally fairly rife on the TCS pitch. Others who have become accustomed to this were just happy to see that the 'passing is for quitters' slogan was moving through the team with merry abandon.

Fully getting the passing vibe tho was young Jesse Mooney who drilled the ball at knee level towards an unsuspecting Andy Carter who managed to turn the resulting free hit into an assist for Mark Sawyer's hat-trick goal (easily the most unpopular goal of the afternoon for both teams).

With two minutes to go Bruce Jones was called to sub off but under the advisement of Mr goal hungry Sawyer (and, admittidly, his own lack of will) he stayed on and gave the poor subs (cold and shivering on the sideline) the finger and jogged away. The jog turned into a light saunter as TCS were awarded a last minute short corner. Injected by Lee Slade, trying to atone for the lack of fitness displayed moments earlier, the ball fell to Jones who unleashed his final ounce of frustration in a drag flick that destroyed the top corner of the Teign goal. 5 - 0 the final score and a truly spirited performance from the TCS defence of 'off the line' Adams, 'naked pouty boy' Harris, 'New puppy' Caile, 'no need for running' Everett and 'thank god there's a post' Whitman.

The talk of passing rumbled on to the pub where Sawyer, Bruce and Witt discussed the merits of giving up posession to team mates - and the greater merits of being top goal scorers. No decision reached but fines all round.

Man of the match went to rocket passing Jesse Mooney and the DOTD worked its way to Sawyer for the second time in three weeks for a range of reasons mostly centered on passing ability, passing accuracy, passing options, Passing timing and passing ineptitude.

In other news Bridgwater managed to hammer out a win against North Devon away from home 6-1. Taunton CS are now 9 points clear with 5 games to go. They now commence a run of games against the bottom 3 sides in the league looking to extend good from shown through the season.
